Folks, it’s Kacee. One big story on the site today, and it landed in a D.C. courtroom early this morning.
Chutkan freezes Trump arch work for two weeks after planning panel vote. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ordered a 14-day halt on excavation, demolition, utility work, roadway closures or other construction at the Memorial Circle site for President Donald Trump’s planned 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery, hours after the National Capital Planning Commission cleared the project 8-4 on Thursday night. The administration frames the arch as a monument for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; opponents say it would block the Lincoln Memorial–Arlington sightline, and attorneys general for Washington and Virginia sued on Oct. 31 alongside Vietnam War veterans. Chutkan wrote that the administration’s “belated and unsupported assertion that the Arch will yield national security benefits does not alter this analysis,” and the cases are Lemmon v. Trump and District of Columbia v. National Park Service.
