The Daily Recap: Monday, Nov. 2, 2026

By Kacee Allen ·

Folks, it’s Kacee. Election eve, and two stories on the site today. Let’s walk through them.

Trump vowed a veto wall and floated pardons for allies if Democrats win Congress. On Miranda Devine’s “Pod Force One” podcast, released Monday morning, the President said that if Democrats take the House and Senate, “I’ll become Mr. Veto,” vetoing bills until lawmakers come over and make a deal. Asked whether he would issue preemptive pardons for people who worked for him, he said, “I would if I needed to. Sure,” and on talk of Democrats going after Elon Musk, he said, “we’ll have to protect them.” Overriding a veto takes two-thirds of both chambers, and here in Kentucky, the open McConnell Senate seat between Andy Barr and Charles Booker is part of deciding that balance.

A federal judge ended the Justice Department’s bid to hold up Alaska’s Senate count. U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Gleason in Anchorage dismissed the suit Sunday, ruling the United States lacked standing because no court order could fix the harm it claimed without breaking the secrecy of the ballot. The department wanted ballots cast for retired teacher Daniel J. Sullivan set aside in the race involving Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and Democrat Mary Peltola, and it says it will take the fight to the 9th Circuit. With Republicans holding only a narrow Senate majority, a single seat in Alaska or Kentucky could tip control.
